Donna Bierlein cheered for the Redskinettes for 8 seasons. She has been a long standing and active member of the Washington Football Cheerleaders Alumni Association, previously known as the Washington Redskins Cheerleader Alumni Association, and originally the Redskinettes Alumni Association for 38 years and a member of the NFCAO since 2009. Her nomination was spurred from her involvement in the creation of the Redskinettes. One day in 1961, Donna realized the need for the then Washington Redskins to have cheerleaders. She met with the Redskins owner, George Preston Marshall, to share her cheerleader idea. Mr. Marshall approved and the Redskinettes were created in 1962. Donna's dream came to fruition with the help of her friend, Betty Lou Johnson; the first Redskinette Director, Doris Snyder; and the first Co-Choreograpers Ann Bittenbender and Mary Lou Bucci. Her talent as a dancer and high school cheerleader along with her enthusiasm was the foundation for the cheerleading squad. After Donna retired in 1969, she served on the cheerleading staff for 11 years until 1980.
